Hybrid Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Course
We have a Hybrid WFR course scheduled! This year, our Hybrid WFR course will begin on April 14th. At that time, students will receive their EMR/MFR textbook and online access to the Navigate 2 Premier package. This EMR textbook is the same textbook and online package that Great Lakes EMS Academy previously used for its state-approved MFR courses. The students will complete several online lectures and assignments before the first day of class, when we will meet face-to-face.
We meet face-to-face for two weeks. The first week is scheduled for May 11th through May 15th (9:00 am to 5:00 pm). We will meet at the Rockford Ambulance Community Center.
We will spend the second week (May 18th through the 22nd) at Conestoga Campground in Grand Haven, MI. Students may elect to stay at the campground, but it is not a requirement. During this phase of the training, we are joined by licensed MFRs, EMTs, and paramedics enrolled in the WEMT module. Generally, we will begin the day with a discussion about medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, or summer camp medical clinic administration. We spend most of the afternoon running scenarios. We will practice knot-tying, fire-making, obtaining water, building stretchers, land navigation with an orienteering compass, and constructing shelters.
