About Great Lakes Wilderness Training

Great Lakes Wilderness Emergency Response Training was born from the Great Lakes EMS Academy. These wilderness courses had been taught at the Academy since 2012. We specialize in wilderness medicine courses in Michigan, preparing outdoor enthusiasts for emergencies in the backcountry with certified training and hands-on experience. We offer all of the nationally recognized StoneHearth Open Learning Opportunity (SOLO) wilderness courses and the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course by Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI). Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

The Industry standard for professional outdoor guides, ski patrol, trip leaders, and those seeking advanced wilderness medical training for extended backcountry trips or expeditions.

Designed for licensed EMS providers interested in obtaining certification as wilderness providers. This course is typically completed with the WFR participants as they finish their training with 40 hours of wilderness-specific medical emergencies and traumatic injuries.

An entry-level first aid course for outdoor enthusiasts and trip leaders, providing basic training for short trips with family, friends, or groups. Meets American Camp Association and Boy Scouts of America guidelines.
